MouthWatch Plus+

Our newest intraoral camera brings MouthWatch value, reliability, ease of use, and unparalleled customer support to a high-definition intraoral camera for the first time. The MouthWatch Plus+ is True1080p HD, capturing 2,073,600 pixels in true anatomical color and streams live video at an industry-leading 60 FPS (frames per second). Dual location buttons allow for more precise control, enabling more grasp options for ease-of-use. The buttons located on both the front and the back of the camera allow for single-button capture as well as lighting adjustments.

What is “True” HD Resolution?

While some name-brand cameras claim to be “high-definition”, they only operate at 720p resolution. But what does that even mean? Let’s break it down to the basics. The “p” in 720p or 1080p stands for “progressive”, which has to do with the way video lines are displayed on a monitor or TV. As you can see below, interlaced screens display lines with spacing (half frames) while progressive scans display full frames.

Progressive scans are able to transmit 60 full frames per second while interlace is not.

When comparing 720p to 1080p, it’s important to understand that a 1080p image has 1920 pixels going horizontally and 1080 pixels going vertically (1920×1080 = 2,073,600) while a 720p image has 1280 pixels going horizontally and 720 going vertically (1280×720 = 921,600). This means a 1080p image is going to capture 1,152,000 more pixels than a 720p image (or over 50% greater resolution). But what does that actually mean? Resolution is only part of the image quality picture, so to speak.

Think about pixels as if they’re building blocks. The more pixels you have, the more pixels you are able to build an image with. This allows you to have a clearer display with more rounded edges, smoother animation and overall a more life-like appearance. With 10-bit color coding, the camera enables more than 1 billion color shades to be displayed, providing  true anatomical color rendition. With dental imaging, having anatomically-correct color and high-definition resolution helps to capture fine details that can help monitor the oral cavity, explain conditions to patients and even for insurance claims support.

When monitoring things like oral lesions, oral cancer concerns or gingival irritation, color can expose hidden problems and identify areas that would otherwise be easy to miss in their early stages.

The MouthWatch Plus+ is engineered for precision and accuracy. Our unique combination of imaging sensors and lens engineering, combined with USB 3.0 connectivity gives you lag-free, high-resolution images and blur-free video. The Plus+ camera has a medical grade 5-megapixel CMOS sensor and FPGA processor. With our cameras, you are not sacrificing speed for definition and quality.

Let’s Talk Lighting

Lighting can affect vibrancy, definition, tone and even the focus of intraoral images. By having adjustable LED lighting, the MouthWatch Plus+ allows the user to adjust the light in order to get the best images and capture images in the most realistic way.

Drying the teeth is one way to ensure there will be little to no glare in your pictures, but glare-free images can also be obtained easier by adjusting the amount of light being used. You can even turn off lighting for transillumination use cases, like checking for fractures or changes in tooth color.

By pressing the lighting button (on either side of the camera) you can adjust the LED illumination from low to medium to high, or turn it off completely. With six adjustable LEDs, the camera provides an accurate 5600K color temperature. This option adds the benefit of customizing your images to capture exactly what you’re seeing so that you can display the condition of your patient’s mouth to them most accurately. This makes educating the patient and discussing treatment needs with them easier and more effective.

Done capturing images and setting your intraoral camera aside? A key new feature with this camera is that if you place it down and don’t use it for 30 seconds, it will go to sleep.

Why we built the Plus+

Dental professionals should not have to choose technology that is either high-quality or affordable, when you can have both! At MouthWatch, we have always believed that you shouldn’t overpay for essential technology. Having an intraoral camera in every operatory helps you and your team present treatment needs, gain higher case acceptance, speed claims processing, and retain accurate documentation.

Our original MouthWatch intraoral cameras produce high quality images at a price that ensures practices can have one at every dental chair. We also understand that not every patient or case is a one-size-fits-all situation and that different performance features can assist in individual circumstances.

The MouthWatch Plus+ has the same universal integration  that our original camera has and is backed by the free, responsive lifetime technical support that customers have loved for years. It’s MouthWatch, now in HD.
